KITTIES!!!

We're jumping in ... we're getting a pet.

Now, to clarify, I'm certainly more of a dog person, BUT it just does not make sense for us to get a dog right now.  I just got a new job (YAY!) and between work and school and Katie, I just can't put the time and effort needed into a dog.

However, a cat is right up our alley.

And Katie loves cats.  She plays with the cats at my mother-in-laws ALL the time (her favorite toy is that little cat wand - you know what I'm talking about, the stick with feathers and bells at one end that makes cats leap into the air).  So, naturally, it makes sense that we'd start looking for cats.

What's annoying, though, is that Petfinder.com does not have an app for the Android phones.  Which means all my searching has to be done at home.

But that's quite all right, because I've found some beauties :)

For example, my favorite:

Sleep? What's that?

It seems as though my daughter has forgotten how to sleep.

Case in point: last night, Katie went to bed at 10:30pm, woke up screaming at 2:30am, laid down with Mommy on the couch and was tossing and turning (while really only semi-sleeping) until 6:30am at which point Mommy handed over control to Daddy and got 30 minutes of sleep.  Needless to say, I am exhausted.  And it's not like this is going to be a restful weekend.

Tonight is my nephew's 16th birthday party and tomorrow is the mother of all bridal showers.  I think I'm going to need to sleep for a month.  Boy, how I wished I could sleep that much.

V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N

It is 11:24pm on Saturday night and I am officially declaring myself ..... ON VACATION!!!!

Today was my last day of work and I got off at 2:30 (which turned into 3:30 when they asked me to close and THEN turned into 4 when people WOULDN'T LEAVE!).  Yesterday was my last day of work.

So why now?  Why 11:24pm?  Because my lovely history professor decided to have homework that was due Sunday at midnight.  And I just finished it.  Oy.

I do love my history class and my professor is really amazing, but what the heck man?!  Can't you give us a bit of a break?

Oh well, at least it's not the 10 page term paper I have to write for my art class.

Anyone wanna do that for me?

That might actually be a bit fun.  It's just a wee bit involving.  I have to go to an art museum and pick a single piece of art, then write about it.  Sounds fun!  Until you start getting into all the nitty gritty analyzing mumbo jumbo that just takes the beauty of art out of art.  I don't need to understand perspective or lines or shading to know something is a beautiful piece of art.  Whatever.  I do what I have to do.

But I'll save that for another time.  No more thinking about school.  What I need to be thinking about is SAVANNAH!

We leave tomorrow LATE (as in 10pm-ish) and drive the 16 hours to Savannah.  Then we'll wash up and head out to dinner and crash quite early.

But oy, we still haven't packed a thing!

Eh, Katie's packed for her trip to Ya-Ya's for the week.  That's what's important, right?

Ready ... Set ... BLOG!

Okay, so here goes.  The fastest blog post ever.  I have 15 minutes until I leave for work and I haven't even gotten changed yet, BUT I feel the urge to blog, so here I go!

Yesterday, Katie started walking.  Yes, I realize she is 14 months, but I figure she's been talking since she was 5 months, so I can give her a little leeway on the walking bit.  Her first REAL steps were in church, too, which just seems to make it all the more special.  And, to top it all off, they were to Papa.  My father-in-law melts over this little girl, so when her first steps were to him, he about fainted.  I'm so glad that Mike and I were both able to see it.  We kept joking that she would decide to start walking when Mommy and Daddy were in Savannah next week, but she decided she couldn't let that happen.  My precious girl.

She also had her first lollipop yesterday.  And it was a root beer flavored Dum-Dum.  Girl after my own heart, I swear.

It's midterms this week, which don't really mean a whole lot.  But work is also extra-sucky this week.  Lord help me, I am going to be earning my vacation next week.  Savannah is going to feel so darn good.

Mike and I are heading to the library this week to pick up an audiobook for the drive down there (yes, we're road trippin' it from Chicago to Savannah!  It's nothing compared to the road trip to Tucson/Phoenix we took when we were first married).  Anyone have any suggestions?  On previous road trips we have listened to Cell by Stephen King (which we loved) and a John Grisham book (which we didn't).  We have extremely varied interests in books, so it's a bit difficult.  However, if you have an audiobook that you have listened to that you'd recommend, I'm all ears!
